This series of pen and ink illustrations focuses on the cycle of the seasons and their symbolism of life, death & rebirth. The figure is first shown flourishing with the revival of the Spring greenery. As the seasons slowly pass, she begins decaying and becoming part of the surrounding Earth. The skull she is affectionately clutching, portrays the natural inevitability of death, but in contrast emphasizes her desperate hope of eternally living on as a piece of her world, even after she has completely decayed.

To Death With a SMile

DEATH_poster_NOTYPE.jpg

This poster created for the 2015 MUMEDI To Death with a Smile International Poster Competition, is a personal interpretation of the timeless adage, “Ashes to Ashes, Dust to Dust.” The ghoulish figure depicts a peaceful soul evaporating up into the cosmos to become an eternal piece of the universe. Created traditionally, using layers of charcoal, acrylic paint, and colored pencil, then digitally compiled, this poster attempts to evoke the ethereal feeling of a departing soul.

Theater Posters

Yearn-white.jpg

This set of posters were created for a fictitious play entitled “Yearn.” The play is based on a young boy born without his left hand. For most of his life, he desperately yearned to have a hand like all of his peers. Knowing his family can’t afford a prosthetic, the boy is inspired to create his own 3D printed prosthetic after reading a news article about the technology. These posters are an experimental mix of traditional art techniques and digital editing to convey the desperation of the boy in his quest.
